Anthony-Johnson is an independent, incorporated civil and structural engineering consultancy carrying close to twenty years of dedicated practice and twenty-seven years of post-graduate experience — covering structural design, geotechnics, health & safety and waste management.
Richard graduated from the University of Sheffield in 1995 with a Dual Honours degree in Civil & Structural Engineering, then spent a further year earning a Master of Science in Engineering, specialising in concrete.
He began his career at a multidisciplinary consultancy in Cambridge, gaining experience in structural design to British Standards, geotechnical analysis and site management. Within three years he completed sign-off against his Initial Professional Development with the Institution of Civil Engineers.
He then moved to a firm of acquisition and building surveyors as in-house structural engineer, adding site management, Prince 2 project management, contract management and build costing to his experience.
Richard later founded his own company, broadening into environmental regulation, health & safety and waste management — while maintaining an active structural and civil engineering practice producing planning drawings, structural calculations to both British Standards and Eurocodes, and carrying out site inspections.
The practice operates as an incorporated limited company, registered at Companies House.
Registered with the Institution of Civil Engineers, with completed Initial Professional Development.
Member of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management.
Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
Member of the International Institute of Risk & Safety Management.
Our core business remains structural design, typically engaged by architects — but the portfolio reaches from restoration to ground investigation.
The practice regularly works on grade II listed buildings and conversions — liaising with local conservation officers, designing arch openings and steel insertions that preserve original fabric, and ensuring structures meet Part A of the Building Regulations.
